Maritt had her first appointment with Dr. Brennan today:
He wanted to check her and see how she was doing after checking out the world for all of 6 days.
She had dropped some more weight from her birth weight of 7 lbs 8 ounces down to 6 lbs 13 ounces. Interestingly, he said that some of the initial weight of the baby is due to all of the IV fluids pumped into the mother's body during the delivery process so it's normal for a baby to lose several ounces for that reason alone.
She also shrunk from 20 inches to 19 1/2 inches but really, I think the whole measuring a squirming newborn is a guessing process, at best. The pediatric nurse said "those nurses over at Cottage really like to stretch 'em out..." So, she's either still 20 inches or was never really quite 20 inches to begin with!
Belly button/umbilical cord looked ok. It'll heal up - we just need to keep it clean!
He was pleased with how she seemed but wants us back in a few days to check on the process and to make sure she's gaining weight...
