A Night Out

Last night, Tom & I had a fun evening out. A treat in general and an even bigger one as it was "on a school night..." =)

Erin arrived to watch Cyanne at 6. I'd just like to say how much we adore Erin. She's the world's best babysitter for so many reasons... Cyanne loves her too, which is the best part.

But, she arrived, got the low-down, and we then passed off the babe to her. She immediately started her excellent diversionary tactics (though Cyanne doesn't even cry when we leave her with Erin) and we hopped in the car.

We had a fun (but rushed) dinner at a new place in town called The Melting Pot. It's huge! It would be fun to go there when we have more time or with a group of friends but still - it has one of my favorites things on the planet.
Melted cheese.
Repeat - melted cheese...

So, we had some yummy fondue (though taster Tom said it could've been 'tarter and with more zip.').
Again, melted cheese and therefore, hard to beat.
And salads. We unfortunately didn't have time for their chocolate fondue. Another reason to venture back!

But - the main event of the evening was a lecture by Bill Bryson. I'd bought these tickets for Tom for Christmas. I was telling him that when I purchased them last November, April 14th seemed so far away... and yet, here it was.

We arrived at the Granada and thoroughly enjoyed the lecture/readings. He was hysterical!! And very interesting. It made me want to read all of his books, too. He was one of those people who you meet and think they'd be great to have as a friend - or at least, to be able to invite to dinner...

After the show, we treated ourselves to some tasty gelato at Spoon. It was freezing outside (you east coasters, please refrain or hold your snickers) as it was SUPER windy. I loved it but I could've had an additional layer (or two) of clothes on...

So, what's the best thing to do in conditions like that? Get something freezing to eat! Yay!

So... we each got some gelato (me: coconut (heavenly) and honey fig marscarpone (tasty, interesting...); tom: amaretto (excellent), mint chip (good, but traditional)) and then ran to the car in the wind to battle the others trying to exit from the Granada parking lot.

Quite an enjoyable, fun evening. It felt great to be downtown and taking in a 'cultural' event.

So, all in all, a very nice night out.

We arrived home to find Cyanne, sound asleep in her bed. Clutching her puppy and her pink blanket.

18 Month Pediatrician Appt.

On Monday morning, Cyanne had a nice visit with Dr. Brennan for her 18 month check-up.

She did a good job though was not a fan of the stethoscope (perhaps it was chilly?) or the tool he used to examine her ears. Man, she was giving him the eye... Watching every single move he made. As he'd cross the room, she'd be either sitting in my or Tom's lap, watching his every step.
He certainly wasn't going to sneak up on her if she had anything to do with it!
It was a very "I'm watching you, Mister!" kind of expression...

Here are her most recent stats:
Head: 48 1/2 cm (95%) - our girl's still got a BIG noggin'!!
Height: 31 1/2" (50%)
Weight: 24 lb., 12 oz. (50%)

She had 2 shots. Got one. Cried. Got the second. Cried louder. And then, recovered fairly quickly. Poor girl... Oh, she holds on tight after those shots and puts her wet cheeks against yours. But, we went outside and the birds chirping immediately cheered her up.
Birds are her current obsession.

She's getting so big!
Tom & I are often struck by this fact but it just really hits us from time to time. Where did baby Cyanne go? As we were giving her a bath last night, she just seemed so big sitting there in the tub with all of her duckies and her dinos. I flipped her over so she could kick her legs in the water and she was so long...
Ah... time passes so quickly.

That, and our sitter Erin said last night that she looked quite different, even though it had only been a few weeks since she was last at our house. She said her face had changed and looked "older." I suppose this is what happens, right?

Also amazing - the next appointment I had to make was for October!! For her 2 yr. appointment!! Wow.

Good job, Cyanne!
